Gautam Gambhir criticised the shot that resulted in Virat Kohli’s dismissal in India’s Asia Cup 2022 match against Pakistan.
India was in a bit of trouble at 53/3 in the 10th over of their chase for a 148-run mark on Sunday in Dubai when Kohli was dismissed by Mohammad Nawaz after hitting a 34-ball 35. (August 28).
During a discussion on Star Sports, Gautam Gambhir said about the modern batting great’s shot selection:
“He will be quite frustrated because Rohit Sharma’s wicket had just gone, and if you play a shot like that, it is a good thing a youngster did not play that shot. If a youngster had attempted that shot, there would have been much condemnation.”
“I am confident that given the number of runs he has scored in international cricket, he would tell himself that this shot was unnecessary.” You batted 34 balls and scored 35 runs; your captain had just left; if you had built your innings a bit more, things could have been a little simpler.”
He will be even more disappointed: Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir emphasized Kohli’s nothing shot while noting that the shortest format forces batsmen to bat aggressively. He clarified:
“In T20 cricket, you occasionally feel that you should follow your gut, and you did, but the shot was a disappointment because it was a nothing shot. There would be no issue if you had attempted to play a big shot and gotten out while attempting to hit a six.”
“You did not try to hit a six here, and you did not even find a space. It was a nothing shot, which is presumably why he will be even more disappointed.”
After the former India captain was dismissed, Jadeja, who had been moved up the order, combined with Suryakumar Yadav for 36 runs. The all-around spinner was out on the first pitch of the final over, but Pandya’s six-ball blast three deliveries later secured an Indian victory.
