The 23-year-old India National Cricket Team left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh became the talk of the town after he dropped the catch of the Pakistan National Cricket Team batter, Asif Ali, in the high-profile Asia Cup 2022 match between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, on Sunday.

The 2nd Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022 was played between Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team and Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team on Sunday, September 4, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Batting first, India posted 181/7 on the board with the help of good knocks by Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. Chasing the target, Pakistan players Mohammad Rizwan and Mohammad Nawaz played stellar knocks. In the end, Khushdil Shah and Asif Ali provided the finishing touches to help Pakistan secure a 5-wicket win over Team India.

During the 18th over of the Pakistan innings, which was bowled by Ravi Bishnoi, young India National Cricket Team pacer Arshdeep Singh dropped a simple catch of Asif Ali. The Pakistan batter made most of the opportunity and helped Pakistan win the match.

After the match, the ugly side of social media trolls flared up and the young India pacer was abused heavily for dropping a catch. Also, fans in large numbers blamed him for India’s defeat.

After India’s defeat, Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page was tampered with and he had claims of being associated with a separatist group leading the calls for “Khalistan”. Also, the Wikipedia page entries read that the pacer had been appointed to play for the “Khalistani national cricket team”.

Meanwhile, a Pakistan link has been found in Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page tampering incident, according to a report in India Today.

“The IP address that was used to edit Indian cricketer Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page was the same IP address that edited out references to Pakistani military and Parvez Musharaf,” as quoted by India Today.

“In 2014, the same IP was used to edit UAE Wikipedia page that had critical references to the Pakistani military. The IP address was used yesterday (September 4) to insert Khalistani reference into Arshdeep’s Wikipedia page,” India Today further stated.

Also, Wikipedia executives have been summoned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology after Arshdeep Singh’s Wikipedia page was vandalised to seek an explanation on how fake information on Arshdeep Singh’s page linking him to the separatist Khalistani movement was published on the website.
