Former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq believes Pakistan’s batting order lacks strength after Fakhar Zaman at No. 3. In their Asia Cup 2022 opening, the Men in Green batted with Iftikhar Ahmed, Khusdil Shah, Shadab Khan, and Asif Ali in the middle order, but the combination failed to impress against a formidable Indian bowling unit.

Iftikhar was Pakistan’s second highest scorer with 28 runs, however, the hitters from No.5-7 only managed 21 runs off 23 deliveries.

The middle-order’s disappointing performance had a significant impact, as Pakistan could only score 147 on the board, which was assessed 15-20 runs short of a par total.

They Need To Find Solid Batters In The Middle Order: Inzamam-ul-Haq

On his YouTube channel, Inzamam-ul-Haq stated: “The selection committee and the management should do something about the middle order. The team seems to crumble after Fakhar Zaman gets out at No.3. They need to find proper solid batters for No.4 and No.5 spots. Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah are better suited in the lower middle order.

Fans and analysts alike were perplexed by the promotion of vice-captain Shadab Khan over Asif Ali in the 15th over. Despite the fact that the 30-year-old hitter is the team’s designated finisher, he was relegated to No.7 at a time when the team needed a surge of runs at that stage in the game.

“Pakistan need to play an all-rounder. I felt that Pakistan lacked a pace-bowling all-rounder yesterday. It would have been easier for Babar Azam,, he would have had an option for the final over. A captain should have at least six bowling options when it comes to T20 cricket”, he further added.
