IND vs SL: "Ravichandran Ashwin Should Play" - Saba Karim On India's Playing XI Against Sri Lanka

Indian Cricket Team’s staggering loss has raised quite a few eyebrows as the Men in Blue were outplayed by Men in Green. The management took a bold decision by not playing the star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. It looks as if Ashwin is in the squad for warming the benches as the crafty off-spinner is blatantly getting ignored.

There is no doubt that Ravi Bishnoi has the potential to become the next big thing in International Cricket but he should not be preferred at the expense of a Champion bowler.

Ashwin would be wondering what he needs to wear that Indian cap again. It looks like the management is looking towards the future but in doing so they are losing key matches. Rahul Dravid & Rohit Sharma are known for giving long ropes to the players and if that is believed then once again Ashwin would be spotted in the dugout.

Speaking on India News Sports, the former Indian cricketer suggested some changes. “Ravichandran Ashwin should play against Sri Lanka and, unfortunately, Deepak Hooda will have to miss out. They must go back to playing with a combination of five bowlers and Hardik Pandya as the sixth bowling option.”

Ravichandran Ashwin Fading Away in Indian Cricket Team

We had seen how in ICC T20 World Cup 2021, the spinner was not included against Pakistan & New Zealand; even when the conditions were perfect. It’s quite puzzling to see a player of his talent, not a part of playing 11. He has a lot of variations and recently he has worked on new deliveries like leg spin. The spinner is at the back end of the career and we have seen most of the times that the cricketers sparkle at the last stage of their career.

The off-spinner had a pretty good home season of 2021 where he was seen taking scalps at regular intervals. Maybe the spinner is kept as a secret weapon. We should also remember one thing the spinner can easily get disheartened and lose his mojo. Indian Cricket Team’s Management is often known to throw dice on the 11th hour and it would be fascinating to see whether the veteran gets a game or not.
