Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave glimpses of his return to form as he scored an unbeaten 59 off 44 ball in the group A game against Hong Kong in Dubai in the ongoing Asia Cup 2022.

Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav added an unbeaten 98-run stand to take India to 192 in their 20 overs. While Kohli was slow to start off he got into his gear in the final overs. However, it was Suryakumar Yadav who was the aggressor in this partnership as he scored an unbeaten 68 off just 26 balls. His knock included six fours and as many sixes in what turned out to be an entertaining inning.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer was not entirely happy with Kohli’s knock. He still raised some concerns about the way the former Indian skipper batted. Talking to ESPN Cricinfo’s T-20 Timeout show, Jaffer said that the fluency was still lacking in Kohli’s batting in the game.

“I am still worried about his fluency. That fluency is still not there which we have seen before. I don’t think we are witnessing fluency yet, even though he scored runs today” said Jaffer.

The former Indian opener also questioned Virat Kohli’s lack of intent during his innings against Hong Kong. Kohli played 44 balls for his 59 and maintained a strike rate of less than 140 during the course of his innings.

“If anyone is scoring at a strike rate of 140 or 150 then India is in trouble. So there must be someone who needs to bat at a much greater strike rate.” the former Mumbai player said.

Jaffer had a special mention for Suryakumar Yadav who played a brilliant innings and was the key behind India making 192. India scored more than 50 runs in the final three overs with SKY scoring the majority of those runs.

Jaffer said, “If not for the knock of Suryakumar Yadav, India would have been in trouble.”

As it turned out, Hong Kong could only score 152 for 5 in response to India’s 192. The Men in Blue defeated their rivals by 40 runs to qualify for the Super 4 of the Asia Cup 2022.
