Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri said that the management doesn’t have to worry about the return of Rahul Dravid, who tested positive during the routine pre-departure testing procedure.
The BCCI confirmed that Dravid had contracted covid-19 and was under the watchful eye of the medical staff. He hasn’t travelled to the UAE yet for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 27.
“I don’t think it will make that much of a difference. Today, don’t call it Covid-19, it’s just flu. In 3-4 days, it will be fine. He will be back on the park,” Shastri told Star Sports in the lead-up to the Asia Cup.
“He would be back in time for India vs Pakistan” – Ravi Shastri
Shastri asserted that Dravid would recover in no time and be present for the all-important clash against Pakistan. He compared to the situation to the England tour last year when he contracted the virus ahead of the 5th Test in Manchester.
“Even I could have when I had Covid-19 last year, I could have gone into the dressing room in 6 days. I promise you if I had gone into the dressing room in 6-7 days and we would have played that Test match and won it at Old Trafford.”
“This Covid, Covid, you don’t talk about Covid now. It’s just flu. Take a couple of paracetamols and he would be back in time for India vs Pakistan,” Shastri added.
India ended up losing the same Test a year later and the series between the two sides ended 2-2.
