India vs Pakistan: India Need Virat Kohli In Top Form For T20 World Cup, If He Comes Back In Form Through Asia Cup 2022, It's A Win-win Situation – Irfan Pathan

Former India National Cricket Team all-rounder Irfan Pathan has said that the India National Cricket Team need modern-day batting great Virat Kohli to be “in top form” for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. He added that Kohli gaining back his form through Asia Cup 2022 will be a win-win situation for everyone.

Former India captain Kohli has been going through a lengthy lean patch. He last scored a century in 2019 and in the past few months he has even failed to register good 50+ scores. He had a poor IPL 2022 campaign and he also struggled for runs on the England tour. After missing the series against West Indies and Zimbabwe, he is set to return to action in the Asia Cup 2022.

Meanwhile, former India all-rounder Pathan said that Team India need Kohli to be at his best in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.

“As far as the mind is concerned, what Virat Kohli will be thinking, what kind of mindset he will be coming in with and playing the matches, I think yes, Asia Cup is very, very important but when I look forward to the World Cup, where the pitches will be very, very good in Australia, which he likes, he thrives on Australian pitches, he’s done really well,” Pathan said on Star Sports’ show ‘Gameplan’.

“So Indian team needs Virat Kohli in top form. If he comes back in top form through Asia Cup, I think it’s a win-win situation for Virat Kohli and the Indian team,” he said.

You need someone going into the World Cup in good form – Irfan Pathan

Jatin Sapru further asked Pathan what will happen if Kohli does not have a great Asia Cup campaign. Former India all-rounder responded by saying that the Men In Blue have several good players in the squad and they may need to look at other options because an in-form player is very crucial to have on the big stage like T20 World Cup.

“Indian team has so many options, they need to choose from the options,” Pathan said.

“Because you need someone going into the World Cup in good form. You cannot not have form in the World Cup. You can’t find form in the World Cup,” he said, before adding that he is “very, very confident” that Kohli would thrive in the Asia Cup.
