Pakistan lost by 5 wickets in the final Super 4 match against Sri Lanka before the Asia Cup 2022 final. In this match, Pakistan lost due to poor batting despite the brilliant performance of the bowlers. Pakistan’s batting line-up collapsed to Sri Lanka’s quality spin attack.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam said that the defeat against Sri Lanka will be a learning lesson for his side, which will be analyzed in order to improve their weaknesses ahead of the final match on Sunday.

Azam admitted that bowlers performed brilliantly, but they were not able to excel in batting.

“We played well in both games, but the batting has not been up to the mark. But surely impressed with our fast bowlers, Pakistan has always produced good pacers – the way Hasan made a comeback today was good,” Babar said in the post-match presentation.

Babar said that they need to focus on the issues the team facing before the final match.

“This was definitely a good learning experience, we will sit back and analyze this game, and see where we can improve for Sunday,” he added.

If We Could Get Early Wickets That Will Be Good – Dasun Shanaka

Despite the win, Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka spoke about the shortcomings and said they will improve on them.

“Always acceptable these kind of results. The combination we have with the left-arm fast bowlers, the leg spinners – the variation we have is amazing. I think the extras were a concern in this game, and the lines the fast bowlers bowled. These are areas we can improve, if we could get early wickets in the next game that will be good,” Shanaka said.

Pakistan lost the toss and batted first, and managed to score only 121 runs in 19.1 overs. Leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (3/21) led the bowling attack with three wickets. Maheesh Theekshana (2/21) and Pramod Madushan (2/21) took two wickets each. Chamika Karunaratne and Dhananjaya de Silva took wickets each. Babar Azam (30 off 29 balls with 2 fours) and Mohammad Nawaz (26 off 18 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes) and no other batsmen contributed much.

Sri Lanka comfortably chased down the target in 17 overs. Pathum Nissanka scored an unbeaten half-century and guided his team to victory. He made partnerships with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (24) and Dasan Shanaka (21) after the early wickets. Mohammad Hasnain and Haris Rauf picked up two wickets each and leg spinner Usman Qadir got one wicket.
