Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday, September 11 in Dubai. The side made it through to the final after beating India and Afghanistan in consecutive games. The side lost to Pakistan in match six of the Super 4 a game ahead of the final. It was a moral-boosting five-wicket win for the Lankans who were not even in the race for making the finals at the start of the tournament.
Pakistan chased 174 against India and then beat Afghanistan in a nervy 130-run chase and won the game with a wicket to spare. Naseem Shah hit two back-to-back sixes in the final over to win the game for his side. Skipper Babar Azam had a special mention for him in his post-match comments.
“Excellent with the way Naseem Shah finished it off. Sharjah is always low-scoring, and Mujeeb and Rashid Khan are two of the best bowlers. We just wanted to take the match deep. The way we started with the ball was excellent. In our batting, we didn’t execute our plans very well, but Naseem was outstanding” said Babar.
Pakistan seems to have found the right combination and should ideally stick to the same XI for the final on Sunday. The side would dearly love Babar Azam to hit back form in the final. He scored 30 off 29 balls in the Super 6 game against Sri Lanka. Some of the regular players who were rested for the dead rubber against Sri Lanka will make a comeback into the XI for the final.
Sri Lanka vs Pakistan: Pakistan’s Predicted Playing XI Against Sri Lanka, Asia Cup 2022 Final
Babar Azam (C)
This campaign has been a forgettable one for the Pakistan skipper. In the game against Afghanistan, he scored a first-ball duck. Babar Azam has scored only 33 runs from 4 matches in the T20 tournament with a top score of 14.
Rizwan is the second highest scorer in this Asia Cup so far scoring 212 runs from four games. Kohli is leading the list with 272 runs after his ton against Afghanistan.
Fakhar Zaman
Fakhar has also found the going tough in this Asia Cup. Pakistan’s number three has a chance to make up for it in the final.
Mohammad Nawaz
The left-hander can slot in at number four. He scored just 4 against Afghanistan but is good enough to play a match-winning cameo.
Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan scored 36 off 26 balls and his innings, in the end, was crucial to Pakistan’s win. He has also taken seven wickets in the tournament so far.
Iftikhar Ahmed
Iftikhar scored an important 30 in the game against Afghanistan. This was his highest score in the tournament so far. The right-hander would like to make another important contribution.
Asif Ali
Asif scored 16 off 8 balls in the game against Afghanistan. He could not quite get the job done as he was dismissed in the penultimate over of the match. He will have a key role to play in the final.
Khushdil Shah
Khushdil batting at number 8 adds depth to the Pakistan batting lineup. He has already played a good cameo against Hong Kong.
Haris Rauf
Rauf will lead the pace attack in the final. He picked 2 for 26 in the game against Afghanistan. He has to provide his team with early breakthroughs in the final.
Naseem Shah
Naseem Shahan won Pakistan the match against Afghanistan with the bat smacking two sixes in the final over. With the ball, he has done an equally good taking six wickets so far.
Hasan Ali
With Shanawaz Dahani ruled out, the experienced Hasan Ali can be the third seamer in this Pakistan playing XI for the final. He can replace Mohammad Hasnain.
