Asia Cup 2023

The Asia Cup 2023 was held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 2023. The Asia Cup 2023 cricket tournament was originally scheduled to be held only in Pakistan. However, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had to come up with a hybrid model after India refused to travel to Pakistan due to the political tension between the two countries. As a result, Pakistan hosted 4 games while Sri Lanka was the venue for 9 games including the final.

Asia Cup Format, Teams and Groups 2023:

The 2023 Asia Cup cricket tournament was played in the ODI format in order to give the teams the opportunity to prepare for the ICC World Cup 2023. A total of six teams participated in the 16th edition of the Asia Cup. The five Test-playing nations of the continent - India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh - were joined by debutants Nepal in the competition.

The six teams were divided into two groups of three teams each. India, Pakistan, and Nepal were in Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan were in Group B. The top two teams from each group were to qualify for the Super 4s before the top two teams made it to the final.

Asia Cup Tournament Summary 2023:

From Group A, India and Pakistan qualified for the Super 4s while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh progressed from Group B. From the Super 4s, India and Sri Lanka advanced to the final after winning two of their three games. India beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka before losing to Bangladesh while Sri Lanka emerged victorious against Bangladesh and Pakistan while losing to India.

In the final, India inflicted a humiliating 10-wicket defeat on Sri Lanka. Riding on Mohammed Siraj's sensational spell of 6 for 21, India bowled out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs before chasing down the total in 6.1 overs to clinch the Asia Cup trophy for a record-extending eighth time.

Shubman Gill finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer. Gill scored 302 runs in 6 games. On the other hand, Matheesha Pathirana and Mohammed Siraj were the joint highest wicket-takers, taking 11 wickets.
