Asia Cup 2023: Shaheen Afridi Says He Can Only Dream Of Picking 600 Test Wickets Like Stuart Broad

Pakistani speedster Shaheen Afridi lavished rich praise on England legend Stuart Broad. He expressed his desire to pick 600 plus wickets in Test cricket as the former did. He also talked about his mindset playing the Hundred League.

Stuart Broad ended his career as the legend of the game. He went down as the second-highest wicket-taker in terms of fast bowlers in Test cricket. He is just 5th bowler in the history of Test cricket with 600 wickets to his name. He ended his career with 604 wickets to go with 20 five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket hauls in the match.

On the other hand, Shaheen Afridi is one of the best pacers going in the world of cricket. He has set high standards in all three formats of the game and him being a left-arm pacer sets him apart from others. Touted as Eagle, he is rated as the best new-ball bowler of this generation.

Shaheen Afridi rated Test cricket as his favourite format as it helps him with his fitness. While praising Stuart Broad, he remarked that he enjoyed watching Ashes.

Speaking to Daily Mail, he elaborated: “I saw Broady the other day and for me, Test cricket is the best. What a legend he is. I can only dream of taking 600 plus Test wickets. Test cricket helps me so much with my fitness and makes bowling in the shorter formats so much easier.

“Watching the Ashes was great fun and you can see with how Pakistan played in Sri Lanka, that we are trying to be more attacking.”

Shaheen Afridi is currently part of the Hundred League and speaking about his experience playing in the tournament, he said that as a fast bowler, his job is to take wickets because that’s the best he can do in the span of 20 balls.

He explained: “It’s my first time playing this format but because you’re only allowed 20 balls, every delivery feels huge. I’m trying to get a wicket every ball. Our job is to bowl fast and take wickets.

“In competitions like this, the best thing you can do is take wickets, especially if a batter is set and finding the boundary. There is no secret at all. I just run in and bowl with all my heart and aim for the breakthrough for my team. I love bowling fast and taking wickets. I won’t get bored of it.”

Shaheen Afridi so far has taken 5 wickets in three innings so far in Hundred. He after the league will be joining Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023, where they will play arch-rivals India as well.
