Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reacted to Mohammad Rizwan’s run out in the ongoing first game of the Asia Cup 2023 between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. He pointed out that the keeper-batter not wearing a helmet didn’t allow him to dive. 

Mohammad Rizwan got run out in a bizarre way in the ongoing game against Pakistan. The keeper-batter made a schoolboy error as he didn’t drag his bat while entering the crease and ended up throwing his wicket away after a solid start. 

Mohammad Rizwan played the ball towards the cover region and called for a quick single. The fielder effected the direct hit at the non-striker’s end. He didn’t ground his bat as he focused on the ball coming towards him.

Ravichandran Ashwin believes that the height of the throw didn’t allow Mohammad Rizwan to evade and it was a rare instance where he ducked for cover as he’s someone who always dives.

Taking to his Twitter account, he explained: “The height of the throw made it harder to evade for Rizwan but for someone who generally dives to make his ground all the time while running between the wickets, this is a rare instance of him ducking for cover and the only reason is that he isn’t wearing his helmet. He loves sweeping against spin and no helmet makes it even more bizarre.”

Mohammad Rizwan bailed Pakistan out of trouble after they lost two quick wickets. The keeper-batter along with skipper Babar Azam stitched an 86-run partnership and took the team to the comfortable position. He ended with a knock of 44 in 50 balls. He smashed 6 boundaries in his innings and batted with a strike rate of 88.
