KL Rahul

KL Rahul did not play any of the four Tests against Australia in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy despite being a part of the squad. His graph as a Test cricketer has gone down since the series. He has only played in three Test series since India’s famous win against Australia down under. He played the Test series against England, South Africa and very recently against Bangladesh in December 2022.

He led India in the last two Test matches against South Africa and then in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Rahul played a terrific knock against England and scored a century in the first innings of the first Test in Centurion. Since then his form has deteriorated in the format. This time he is back in the IND vs AUS series as the vice-captain of the side.

Kuldeep Yadav too was a part of India’s squad in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2021. Like KL Rahul, he did not play a single Test match in the series. After remaining in exile in the format for quite some time, he made a comeback in the Test series against Bangladesh.

He impressed one and all in the first Test picking up 8 wickets in Chattogram only to be benched in the second test in Dhaka. Kuldeep has bowed well in recent times in white-ball format and is a part of the squad as the third spinner alongside Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja’s participation in the series is subject to his fitness.

Mohammed Shami

Shami was ruled out of the Test series after the first Test in Adelaide when he was hit on his right forearm in the very first Test. That ruled him out from the entire series. He is back again in this series and has a point to prove. Since the series against Australia, Shami played the Test series against England, South Africa, and Bangladesh.

He picked 13 wickets against England, 14 against South Africa, and five in just two matches against Bangladesh. He is fit and raring to go in this series and is well-prepared as well.
