Former Australia National Cricket Team opening batsman Matthew Hayden backed veteran India National Cricket Team pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been facing heavy criticism for his poor death bowling in T20Is, and said that the 32-year-old “has been a very good finisher”.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar had an awful day with the ball in the first T20I of the three-match T20I series against Aaron Finch’s Australia National Cricket Team at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh on Tuesday, September 20, where India lost by 4 wickets. He ended his spell with figures of 4-0-52-0. This was the first time Bhuvneshwar had conceded over 50 runs in a T20I match.

Speaking on Star Sports’ show ‘Match Point, former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden backed Bhuvneshwar and asserted:

“I disagree with that, I think he can and has been a very good finisher. I think that’s his role, I mean, obviously, his role is to take wickets up front but if your skipper wants an over or two from you at the end, then he can do that.”

Former Australia National Cricket Team opening batsman also spoke about young all-rounder Cameron Green, who smashed 61 runs off 30 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes, and bagged one wicket against India in the first T20I. Hayden lauded Green and said that he has been a big asset for Australia for a couple of years now.

“Greene, he has been a really big asset for Australian Cricket for a couple of years now. He’s a genuine all-rounder. I just think he’s such a huge part of the future of Australian cricket. So it doesn’t really surprise me, he’s very capable, he’s a big man with good skills. He looked a little bit disappointing with the ball, but it’s a tough place to bowl.”
