India and Australia go head to head in the second T20I in Nagpur on Friday, September 23. The visitors are leading the three-match series 1-0 and are looking to complete a whitewash. On the other hand, India find themselves in a must-win situation heading into the second T20I. The series is important for both teams ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Australia came up with a dominant performance in the first T20I. Cameron Green shone with the bat opening for the very first time in his career. Matthew Wade finished the game off for his side with an unbeaten 45 off 21 balls.
The Indian batters found form as well. KL Rahul scored 55, Suryakumar Yadav 46 and Hardik Pandya a career-best 71*. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma missed out in the first game and will look to score some runs in the second.
The bowling was expensive from both sides. The prime bowlers were taken for runs. Pat Cummins from Australia went for 47 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar went for 46. However, Aussie skipper Aaron Finch still spoke about positives from the game saying that it was a competitive game.
“It was a good contest, wasn’t it? We had some really good partnerships, there were some good contests between the bat and ball. They came hard at us. You expect the run rate to slow down if you lose wickets. The batters tried to change the momentum of the game. That’s what we play for, we still try to instil all the processes leading into the World Cup” said Finch.
Meanwhile, as per reports in Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to make a comeback into the Indian playing Xi in the second T20I. He was rested in the first game as a precautionary measure. The premier Indian [pacer has been out of the team since July when he was involved in an ODI against England.
“The team management did not want to rush him and that is the reason for his absence in the Mohali game. He has been bowling full blast at the nets and he is ready for action” a BCCI official said.
