Adam Gilchrist, a former keeper-batter for Australia, is still confident that the side will win the first Test series in India since 2004. The 51-year-old, though, advised the Australians against approaching the tour with the intention of introducing a spinner.

Australia’s 18-man Test squad includes four spinners since spin is expected to play a significant role in India. The Australians haven’t won a Test series in India in nearly 20 years, and in their last four attempts, they’ve only secured one Test win there.

Adam Gilchrist, who led Australia to victory in 2004, warned the visitors not to take a chance on spinners just for the sake of it. In order to stop the flow of runs, the former wicketkeeper advised Australia to keep hitting the stumps and put fielders in numerous catching situations.

Adam Gilchrist stated in a Fox Cricket interview: “We attempted to modify our approach back then, and I’d be curious to see if the Australians do it this time, by rolling spinners out there instead of looking for them. Attack the stumps right from ball one.”

“Swallow your pride a little, act defensive to be aggressive. Begin with one slip, one catching mid-wicket, fielders out on the boundary to negate the boundary option, but keep a couple of catchers in place – either at the short cover or short mid-wicket – and be patient.”

Adam Gilchrist believes that visitors should adhere to a simple strategy:

Adam Gilchrist stated there is hope because the team chosen by the selectors resembles their group from 2004. He believes the visitors ought to follow a straightforward strategy and abstain from excess, adding:

“I believe they will accomplish it. I truly believe it. I believe they have a squad and final XI that will be very similar to the team we played in 2004. So many teams travel to India hoping to introduce some new spinner who will adjust and bedazzle in India – it rarely happens”

“Pick your best four bowlers, run with them — and if that’s three seamers who can all get very great reserve swing and Nathan Lyon, who’s amazing and clearly the best off-spinner we’ve ever had, can play his role,” is my gut feeling. You do it, and then you go with it” Adam Gilchrist Added.

Australia hasn’t won a Test series in India in almost 18 years, and they’ll have another chance next month.
