The young wicketkeeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan has failed to capitalize on opportunities in recent times as he struggled in the T20 series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand at home. Former India cricketer Saba Karim said that consistency is the biggest problem for Ishan Kishan, and he is not a regular member of the Men in Blue team.

Questions were raised over Kishan’s place in the line-up as he struggled against New Zealand in the T20 series and scored 24 runs in three innings with a dismal average of 8 and a strike rate of 60. The left-handed batter scored only 30 runs in the 50-over format, with an average of 15 at a strike rate of 63.83 and a best score of 17 in three innings.

Speaking on India News, former India selector Saba Karim said that he was not surprised by Ishan Kishan’s recent performances. Karim advised that the southpaw should work on his temperament to be successful in the long run.

“This is not the first time with Ishan Kishan. He had scored a lot of runs ahead of the 2021 T20 World Cup. He failed to deliver in the tournament. That’s why he keeps getting in and out of the team. To cement a place, you need to keep scoring,” Saba Karim said.

“He needs to work on temperament, shot selection and approach. What is the reason that you can play only one big inning in six months and then don’t score? If you have the potential, you’re getting opportunities to prove it. You have to deliver,” he added.

Ishan Kishan will next be seen in action in the four-match Test series against Australia, with the first Test scheduled to be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur, on Thursday, February 9. The second test will be held in Delhi (February 17–21), the third in Dharamsala (March 1–5), and the fourth in Ahmedabad (March 9-13).
