India beat New Zealand by 168 runs in the third and final T20I of the three-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, February 1. The former Indian cricketer said that Ishan Kishan did not capitalize on opportunities and may lose his place in the T20 set-up.
The young wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan failed to perform in the T20 series, scoring 24 runs in three innings at a dismal average of 8 and a strike rate of 60. He has not scored a half-century in the shorter format in his last 14 innings, and his last half-century was against South Africa in June last year.

It Is Going To Be A Problem For Ishan Kishan – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Ishan Kishan did not start well this year. The former Indian opener said that the southpaw could not take advantage of the opportunities he got in T20s. The former India opener feels that some players in the current line-up will have to make a way for the regulars.
“It is going to be a problem for Ishan Kishan. 2023 hasn’t been a great year for him. He scored a fantastic double century in the last month of 2022 and after that, he hasn’t got that many chances in ODIs. In the opportunities he has got in T20Is, he has scored a 37 but other than that, he hasn’t got starts and where he has got them, he has not been able to utilize them,” Aakash Chopra said.
“The way he got out in this match, it becomes a question, because in T20 cricket or Indian cricket at the moment, the players who are playing currently are on borrowed time. Rohit (Sharma), Virat (Kohli) and (KL) Rahul are not there currently, Rishabh Pant is also out, and Sanju Samson is also injured,” he added.
The team management is currently not considering senior players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul for the shorter format as they are more focused on the ODI World Cup later this year. Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant are not available for selection due to injuries.
