MSK Prasad, the chief selector and former wicketkeeper for India, discussed India’s likely opening lineup for the forthcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
Who should start alongside captain Rohit Sharma in the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy first test against Australia is a conundrum that Team India will face. Shubman Gill’s name has recently surfaced in the discussion despite KL Rahul’s performance over the last several years.

MSK Prasad, a former India wicketkeeper and chief selector, has weighed in on the debate and supported Gill to start the innings. Prasad has additionally suggested that Rahul shift down the list to make room for Gill.
“I would not mind seeing KL Rahul at No. 5 in Tests. I don’t think Gill should be asked to come down the order. Rahul has played well in 50-over cricket and I see no reason why he shouldn’t come down the order,” MSK Prasad told the news agency PTI.

“Bharat is given the first chance to don the big gloves”: MSK Prasad
Former chief selector MSK Prasad offered his opinion as well, choosing Bharat over Ishan for the wicketkeeper role.
“He (Bharat) has been groomed for this role even in presence of Rishabh Pant for the past two years. So, it is only fitting that Bharat is given the first chance to don the big gloves. He is ready,” said MSK Prasad.
India has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the last three test matches—at home in 2016–17, in Australia in 2018–19, and in 2020–21—all by a score of 2-1 during the course of a four-match series.
