Former India National Cricket Team head coach Ravi Shastri handed the Test debut cap to the star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav on Thursday, February 9.
Suryakumar and wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat are set to make their Test debut in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series opening clash against the Pat Cummins-led Australia National Cricket Team at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur.

Suryakumar was included in the squad for the marquee four-match Test series largely on the back of his exceptional performance in T20I cricket. He is the No.1 ranked batter in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings and the team management is looking at him as an aggressive batting option, who could single-handedly change the game.
Suryakumar Yadav, who plays sweep shots brilliantly, has been slotted to the No.5 batting position in the absence of Shreyas Iyer, who has been ruled out of at least the first Test due to a back injury.

Meanwhile, KS Bharat, who has been Rishabh Pant’s understudy for a long period of time, was expected to make his debut, considering he brings good first-class experience and he is a great wicket-keeper.
Ravi Shastri Hands Test Debut Cap To Suryakumar Yadav
Former India National Cricket Team head coach Shastri handed the Test debut cap to Suryakumar and the family members of the debutant were invited to join the Test cap ceremony.
The family members of Bharat and Suryakumar were watching from a few yards as the players received their debut caps. Also, the current head coach of the team, Rahul Dravid, met the family members of the debutants and shook hands with them.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a clip of Suryakumar receiving his Test debut cap from Shastri on Twitter.
