Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, was ecstatic to see Shubman Gill reach his first Test century at home. A large smile spread across Kohli’s face as he praised Gill’s efforts from the dugout at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a great moment for the young India opener.

Shubman Gill, an Indian opening batsman, scored his second Test century against Australia in the fourth and final Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test on March 11 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

During the third day of the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad, Shubman Gill reached his second Test century. After KL Rahul in 2015, Gill became the second-youngest Indian opener to surpass the three-figure mark against the Australians.

To reach his hundred, Gill faced Todd Murphy and executed a dangerous sweep shot. His knock, however, was not fraught with danger as the 23-year-old completely outplayed the Australian bowling unit on Day 3 of the match, when the Narendra Modi Stadium pitch was still favourable for batting.

Gill reached his century in 194 balls and raised his bat to acknowledge the crowd’s support. Gill removed his helmet and performed his typical celebration, waving his bat toward the locker room.

Shubman Gill has risen to become one of the top batsmen in international cricket:

India lost Cheteshwar Pujara just before the tea break, but the joy was short-lived. In fact, a few deliveries after Gill reached 100 runs, Todd Murphy bowled the seasoned player for LBW.

The middle of the match, though, was kept lighthearted by Virat Kohli, who laughed with Shubman Gill and praised the young batsman for scoring his first Test century at home. After making his way out of the dugout and towards the middle of the field, Kohli congratulated Gill by shaking hands there. In actuality, Kohli opted to sit at the dugout during the tea break rather than up the steep steps at the stadium.

Over the past four months, Gill has made amazing progress toward becoming one of the best batters in international cricket. The 23-year-old has scored up to five hundred, including a double century in an ODI, in 2023. In December 2022, he reached his first Test hundred in Bangladesh.
