The upcoming Border-Gavaskar trophy commencing on 9th February is expected to be an enthralling one. Aussies would be keen to end the drought of 19 years as they haven’t won Test Series in India since 2004. Steven Smith will have to guide the batters in testing conditions.

India not only has to win the Test Series but win by 3-1 or 3-0 to stake a claim in the World Test Championship (WTC 2021-23) final. The Men in Blue needs to quickly find a replacement for Rishabh Pant as he Pant not only used to score quick runs but play a long & effective inning.

Steven Smith on Warm Up game

Steven Smith was having an interaction with Daily Telegraph and was asked about Warm up game. “We’ll wait and see when we hit the ground. I think we’ve made the right decision to not play a tour match. Like I said, last time they dished up a green top for us and we barely faced any spin, so it’s kind of irrelevant. We’re better off having our own nets and getting spinners in and bowling as much as they can.” said Steven Smith.

“We normally have two tour games over in England. This time we don’t have a tour game in India. The last time we went I’m pretty sure we got served up a green top (to practise on) and it was sort of irrelevant. Hopefully, we get really good training facilities where the ball is likely to do what it’s likely to do out in the middle, and we can get our practice in.” he added.

Fascinating Series on Cards

The Men in Blue would rely on the duo of Ashwin & Jadeja to rattle the opponent. Jadeja had a productive Ranji Game where he looked in complete control, the inclusion of Jadeja also bolsters the batting lineup as they can use him in the middle order if the situation demands.

Australia would be banking on Nathan Lyon as the pacer last time in 2017 bamboozled Indian batters. The problem with Australia is that they don’t have a quality second spinner present where a lot will depend on Travis Head, the part-time spinner to provide breakthroughs.
