PAK vs AUS: Australia-Pakistan Test Series To Be Recognised As Benaud-Qadir Trophy

Cricket Australia (CA) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have confirmed that the Test series between Pakistan National Cricket Team and Australia National Cricket Team will be recognised as Benaud-Qadir Trophy and the teams will battle for the inaugural trophy in the upcoming series.
The historic Australia tour of Pakistan 2022 is all set to begin from March 4. The tour consists of a three-match Test series, which will be played from March 4 to 25, a three-match One Day International series, which will be played from March 29 to April 2, and a sole T20 International match, which will be played on April 5. This will be Australia’s first tour of Pakistan since 1998.

The late leg-spinners Richie Benaud and Abdul Qadir are regarded as two of the finest players to step foot into international cricket.
When the Australian team played their first Test in Pakistan in the year 1956 Benaud was part of that team. Also, he led the side in the next Pakistan tour in 1959, where the tourists won by 1-0.
Qadir was one of the leg-spin greats and he was known as the “magician” he played a big role in restoring the lost art of leg-spin in the 1970s and 80s. Also, he was amongst Benaud’s three greatest spin bowlers alongside Shane Warne and Bill O’Reilly.
Proud To Be Over Here In Pakistan – Pat Cummins
Australian Test captain Pat Cummins has said that he is proud to be part of the Pakistan tour and added that the entire group is privileged to be in Pakistan.
“I think Richie first toured over here over 60 years ago, so it’s got a rich history and just really proud to be over here in Pakistan and just can’t wait for it to start,” Cummins said.
“We’ve got a really long history of playing against Pakistan. I’ve had some good series back home, but never over here – a whole generation of Australian cricketers haven’t had the chance to be over here and play. As a group, we feel really privileged and lucky to be here. We’re incredible well looked after and just can’t wait for it all to start. It’s beautiful over here in Islamabad.”
Meanwhile, Benaud’s wife, Daphne, after the announcement of the inaugural Benaud-Qadir Trophy said that she is delighted to approve the usage of Benaud’s name for the series between Australia and Pakistan.
“I am delighted to give my approval for richie’s name to be on this trophy alongside that of Abdul Qadir,” Benaud’s wife, Daphne, said in a statement.
“Richie had very high regard for Abdul and the fact that both were leg-spinners has a nice ring to it. I know Richie would be very pleased to approve a trophy the aim of which is not only to enhance Test cricket but also to advance cricket more broadly between these two countries. I wish both sides the very best of luck for the series and I shall be following it with interest.”
