SL vs AUS: Pathum Nissanka Tests Positive For Covid-19, Gets Ruled Out Of Remainder Of 2nd Test vs Australia, SLC Names Replacement

The 24-year-old Sri Lanka National Cricket Team opening batsman Pathum Nissanka has tested positive for Covid-19 and he has been ruled out of the remainder of the ongoing second Test match against the Australia National Cricket Team.
The second and last Test match of the series between Sri Lanka and Australia is being played at the Galle International Stadium in Galle.

Winning the toss and batting first, Australia were able to post 364 runs on the board with the help of amazing centuries by star batters Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne. Among bowlers, Prabath Jayasuriya shined as he bagged a 6-wicket haul.
Opener Pathum Nissanka was able to score only 6 runs in Sri Lanka’s first innings before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc.
Meanwhile, captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal played sensational knocks and at stumps, on Day 3 Sri Lanka were at 431/6 in 149 overs.
Ahead of the play on Day 4, on Monday, Sri Lanka Cricket asserted that the 24-year-old Pathum Nissanka tested positive on Sunday morning via an Antigen test and a PCR test later that day confirmed the diagnosis.
Oshada Fernando Replaces Pathum Nissanka In Sri Lanka XI For 2nd Test vs Australia
Sri Lanka Cricket also stated that Oshada Fernando will replace Pathum Nissanka in Sri Lanka playing XI as a Covid substitute for the second Test match against Australia.
“Pathum Nissanka has tested positive for Covid-19. He was found to be positive during an Antigen test conducted on the player yesterday morning, following the player complaining of feeling unwell,” Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted.
“A PCR test carried out later in the day confirmed the result. Nissanaka was immediately isolated in a different hotel upon identification and will undergo Covid-19 Protocols. Oshada Fernando will join the playing XI as a Covid replacement,” SLC added.

Notably, Oshada Fernando had also replaced Angelo Mathews in the playing XI during the first Test against Australia after the veteran batter Mathews was found Covid-19 positive.
Also, Sri Lanka have now lost five players to Covid-19 before or during the second Test match, Dhananjaya de Silva, Asitha Fernando, Jeffrey Vandersay, Praveen Jayawickrama and Nissanka are all missing.
