The WPL 2024 match between Gujarat Giants and RCB Women will be played in Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on March 6 from 7.30 pm IST. The Delhi leg kicks off from March 5 and this is the second game in the city. The tournament will be concluded in Delhi with the final on March March 17.

RCB Women will be led by Smriti Mandhana who finally scored her maiden WPL fifty against Delhi Capitals women. Her next two best scores in the WPL are against the Gujarat Giants. In the previous match between the two sides, RCB Women won by 8 wickets chasing a paltry 108.

Gujarat Giants led by Beth Mooney are still searching for their first win of WPL 2023. They have lost one game each against the other four teams with their previous loss against the Delhi Capitals women.

Team Analysis

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women

Smriti Mandhana leading the side has made a better start with the bat and as a captain. She has won two games beating the Gujarat Giants and the UP Warriorz. However, her side has lost against the two better teams Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals women.

Mandhana is the fourth-highest run-getter with 139 runs from four games. Asha Sobhana has gone a bit soft since her fifer against UP Warriorz. The team would look for a collective effort against Gujarat Giants.

Gujarat Giants

The Giants are winless in the tournament so far. They have lost four games and that too by big margins which has affected their NRR as well. They now have four games remaining in the Delhi leg of WPL 2024 and need to win all four of them to stay alive in the tournament.

The Giants were asked to set targets in the first three games. In the fourth, they failed to chase 164 for victory against Delhi Capitals women.

The franchise and the support staff are finding it tough to find answers to their shambolic performance so far in the season. They finished last in WPL 2023 and another loss will virtually end their playoff hopes.

Key Factors

Pitch Conditions

Unlike Bengaluru where teams won chasing, in Delhi teams might like to bat first and set targets. The venue always aids spin in T20 matches as we have seen in the men’s IPL as well. Historically Delhi has not been a high-scoring venue like some other venues in India in T20s.

Therefore a score of around 160-170 might be a match-winning one. Teams here might prefer to set targets and the first game will give us a very good idea as to how to go about here in Delhi.

Form and fitness

Gujarat Giants have concerns both with the form and fitness of players. Kashvee Gautam and Lauren Cheatle have already pulled out of the tournament due to different reasons.

While Chetle has health issues, Gautam is struggling with a calf injury that has hindered her from participating in this season’s WPL. She was the most expensive player this season bought by Gujarat Giants at 2 crores.

Tactical Acumen

Both Smriti and Mooney have been seasoned campaigners when it comes to captaincy. So far in WPL 2024, Mandhana’a’s captaincy has been way better to what it was in the first season. Mooney, on the other hand, seems to be struggling to handle her players, especially in bringing out the best from them.

GUJ-W vs BAN-W Today Match Prediction– Who Will Win Today’s WPL Match? WPL 2024, Match 13

RCB Women won the previous game between the two sides and looks good to win this game as well with players in better form. RCB have a 2-1 head-to-head record in three games against Gujarat Giants.

Conclusion

A win will take the RCB women a step closer to the playoffs. Another loss for Gujarat Giants will almost mean the end of their campaign. This is the first game for both the teams in Delhi.
