The Indian T20I team has seen a lot of changes since Virat Kohli gave up T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup last year. India faced a group stage exit after losing to Pakistan and New Zealand in their first two games. The defeats cost them big as wins against Afghanistan and Scotland were not enough to take them through to the next game.

12 months down the line, Rohit Sharma is now India’s all-format skipper and the lynchpin so to speak in India’s T20I squad. After adequate rest both the senior batters made a comeback to the squad in the Asia Cup.

The campaign, however, was not a memorable one for India, who were eliminated from the tournament after losing to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage. The defeats highlighted a few concerns for India heading into the T20 World Cup. The captain and the management would like to address them all when they play South Africa and Australia at home.

As far as players are concerned, Rohit Sharma has trusted his confidence in different players and has made a big call of recalling a few veterans. R Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik are examples of the same.

Kohli, on the other hand, had a very different spin attack in the T20 World Cup last year in contrast to the current attack. The management decided to drop Yuzvendra Chahal from India’s T20I squad last year. Chahal has been the second-highest wicket-taker for India in the format. Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at three players who played under Kohli but have not played yet played a match under Rohit.

Varun made his T20I debut when India toured Sri Lanka in 2021. His last T20I was against Scotland in the T20 World Cup last year. He has not played a T20I for India since the last T20 World Cup. Overall, he has played six T20Is and took just one wicket.

His exploits in the IPL for KKR in 2021 helped him get into the team for the T20 World Cup in 2021. However, since then Varun has lost into oblivion and is not expected to make a comeback any sooner.

Rahul Chahar was also a part of India’s 2021 T20 World Cup squad. He too has not played a single game for India post the conclusion of the tournament. After making his T20I debut in 2019, Chahar has played just six T20Is the last of which was in the T20 World Cup 2021 against Namibia.

Once considered India’s next-generation cricketer, Manish Pandey is nowhere in the picture in India’s current scheme of things. He was picked into the side after his consistent performances in the IPL. He was given consistent opportunities in ODI and T20I cricket under Kohli before the management decided to not consider him anymore. Pandey played 29 ODIs and 39 T20Is. His last international game for India was back in December 2020.
