BCCI has sacked the Chetan Sharma selection committee after India’s poor show in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. India, who topped the group 2 points table in the super 12 round, faced a poor 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-final.

Post the tournament, BCCI sacked the senior men’s team selection committee and has invited fresh applications for new selectors. During Chetan Sharma’s selection committee’s tenure, the Indian team failed to win ICC World Test Championship 2021 title, ICC T20 World Cup 2021, and ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Ajinkya Rahane is the first Indian player whose career might be revamped after the sacking of Chetan Sharma’s selection committee. The right-handed batsman was the vice-captain of the Test team last year, however, he was replaced by Rohit Sharma as the vice-captain after the latter took over ODI and T20I captaincy.

The 34-year-old has played 82 Tests so far for India and averages 38.52. However, after poor batting form last year, he was ousted from the national team. The middle-order batsman played 13 Tests in 2021 but only played 2 Tests this year. He last played in the Test series against South Africa in January this year.
