Following the completion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021, Ravi Shastri’s tenure as head coach of the Indian Cricket Team came to an end. Unfortunately, India failed to win the title as they couldn’t make a top-four finish in the tournament.

All that is now a thing of the past and the focus shifts on the next ICC event. Interestingly, the next edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held next year in Australia. India will go into the T20 World Cup under a newly appointed head coach i.e., Rahul Dravid. Also, Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the new captain of the Indian team in T20 internationals and he is likely to lead the side in the T20 World Cup 2022.

Much like India, a lot of other teams will go into the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 with new head coaches. In this article, we take a look at the four teams which would be seen with new coaches in ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

4 Teams Which Will Be Seen with New Coaches In T20 World Cup 2022

  1. Pakistan- Gary Kirsten

In what came as a shocking decision, Pakistan’s former cricketer, Misbah Ul Haq stepped down from the role of Pakistan’s head coach one month prior to the start of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

In his absence, Saqlain Mushtaq took up the role of an interim coach. Despite all that, Pakistan Cricket Team played admirably in the tournament. They finished the Super 12 stage at number one spot with 5 wins in 5 matches. However, Pakistan’s campaign came to an end after losing to Australia in the semi-final.

As per reports, Gary Kirsten is on PCB’S radar to become the next head coach of Pakistan’s men’s cricket team. Gary Kirsten is counted amongst the finest coaches in international cricket. Under his tutelage, India won the 2011 ICC World Cup. Pakistan are likely to go into the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 with Gary Kirsten as head coach.

  1. Australia- Ricky Ponting

Contrary to everyone’s expectations, the Australia Cricket Team exhibited a sensational performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 and won the title after beating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final.

This has to be Justin Langer’s biggest achievement since he took charge as the head coach of the Australian Cricket Team. However, there are reports that his time as the head coach might come to an end after the upcoming Ashes series, scheduled to be played between December and January.

Former legendary Australian cricketer, Ricky Ponting had earlier expressed his desire to take up the role of head coach of the Australian team in the shortest format. Ponting has a great record as a coach in T20 franchise tournaments.

Under his tutelage, Mumbai Indians won a title in IPL. He has helped Delhi Capitals reach the playoffs for two consecutive occasions in the 2020 and 2021 editions of the tournament. If Justin Langer’s tenure as a head coach comes to an end after the Ashes, Ricky Ponting could be seen as taking up the role of Australia’s next coach.

  1. Sri Lanka- Mahela Jayawardene

Mickey Arthur has announced that he will step down as Sri Lanka’s head coach after the home Test series against West Indies. According to a report published in Daily Mirror, he sent his resignation letter on Tuesday. Under his guidance, Sri Lanka played admirably in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021. Sri Lanka won three out of three games in the first round of the tournament, which helped them reach the Super 12 stage.

Mahela Jayawardene, who was appointed as the consultant of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team during the tournament, is in line to become Sri Lanka’s next head coach. He is currently the head coach of Mumbai Indians in IPL. Given his success ratio as a coach, Sri Lanka would be desperate to appoint him as the next head coach.

  1. India- Rahul Dravid

India endured a poor outing in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Two losses in the first two matches meant the Indian Cricket Team failed to reach the semi-finals. And with that result, former Indian cricketer, Ravi Shastri’s tenure as head coach also came to an end. For the unversed, Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new head coach, while Rohit Sharma is the new captain of the Indian Team in T20 internationals.

Rahul Dravid will take up the role of India’s new head coach until the 2023 T20 World Cup 2021. But, right now, the focus would be on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Under the newly appointed coach and captain, India played the first of the three-match T20 international series against New Zealand on Wednesday. India won that game by 5 wickets and would be keen to win the next two matches as well.

Under a new coach and a new captain, India would be looking to build a strong team before they head into the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
