The year 2022 is almost at its climax and the Indian team had many ups and down this year. Towards the end of this year, India will play two Test matches against Bangladesh under the ongoing India tour of Bangladesh 2022. In 2022, The men-in-blue won some bilateral series under skipper Rohit Sharma.

India failed to win Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 which came as two biggest setbacks. There were a few players who were picked into the team on the basis of their reputation. However, they completely failed to do well for the team. Here we talk about 5 Indian players who were picked on reputation and have caused India more damage than good.

Ravichandran Ashwin is the first player on this list. Being an experienced and mature spinner, Ashwin was picked by India during ICC T20 World Cup 2022. However, this came as a big disadvantage for the team when they fail to get a single wicket in the semi-final against England.

Ravichandran Ashwin was picked as the primary spinner for the team in the match but he failed to attack the England batsmen with his spin attack. He took the spot of Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI but could not grab crucial wickets for the team.

Axar Patel is another player on this list. Axar Patel was not a regular player for the team in ODIs and T20I. After Ravindra Jadeja got injured ahead of ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Patel was picked as the perfect replacement for the all-rounder.

However, Axar Patel choked in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Not only he failed to grab wickets with his spin attack, but he also failed to score runs with the bat in the tournament.

Shikhar Dhawan is another player on this list. Dhawan is a regular member of the team in ODIs. When many key players were absent in the New Zealand tour, Dhawan was picked as the ODI skipper. However, losing the only game in the ODI series, Dhawan lost the ODI series against New Zealand. In comparison, Hardik Pandya led the team to a T20I series victory against New Zealand.

In the recent ODI series against Bangladesh, Dhawan got out for single digits in all three games. Dhawan was picked as an opener in the ODI series and was expected to excel as he is an ODI specialist for India. However, his failure cost the team and resulted in a humiliating ODI series loss to Bangladesh.

Dinesh Karthik is another player on this list. After Karthik came up with a good show in IPL 2022, selectors thought that he can be a good option for wicketkeeper-batsman and finisher for the team in T20Is. Hence, he was picked in both Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

However, Karthik failed to score well in both tournaments. In ICC T20 World Cup 2022, he was also dropped from the team in the semi-final match due to his poor batting show in the super 12 round.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is another player on this list. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a regular bowler for India in both ODIs and T20Is. As a result, he was picked for Asia Cup 2022 and ICC T20 World Cup 2022 too. However, Kumar failed to perform in Asia Cup 2022.

When he was expected to lead the attack while defending the total, he emerged as too expensive. In ICC T20 World Cup 2022, Kumar was expected to provide early breakthroughs for the team being an experienced white ball bowler. However, he failed to help the team win the games and get crucial wickets.
