Rinku Singh has further enhanced his reputation as one of the best finishers in the country by coming up with yet another sensational performance on Thursday (August 31). Not a part of India’s ODI team at the moment, the highly-rated batsman is currently plying his trade for Meerut Mavericks in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh T20 tournament.
On Thursday, Meerut Mavericks (MV) opened their campaign in the tournament by locking horns against Kashi Rudras at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Meerut Mavericks won the toss and elected to bat first. Riding on captain Madhav Kaushik’s unbeaten knock of 87 runs, they posted a challenging total of 181/4 in the allotted 20 overs.
Barring Kaushik, only opener Shoaib Siddiqui (24) managed to cross the 20-run mark. Rinku Singh failed to deliver as per expectations when he came out to bat at number four as early as the fifth over. The southpaw failed to find his groove and was out for 15 runs off 22 balls. He did hit a six but did not look in good touch as he was castled by Parv Singh.
In reply, Kashi Rudras finished with the exactly same score as their innings ended on 181/7. Captain Karan Sharma (58) and Shivam Bansal (57) starred with the bat for their side. Mohammad Shami’s unbeaten cameo of 16 runs from just 4 balls helped Kashi Rudras avoid a defeat and force a Super Over.
Rinku Singh’s heroics in Super Over:
While Rinku Singh could not deliver with the bat in the first innings of the match, it did not take him long to show why he is rated so highly. The Kolkata Knight Riders star, who hit five consecutive sixes in this year’s IPL, powered the Mavericks to a thrilling win by hitting three sixes in a row in the Super Over.
After the Rudras scored 16/1 in the Super Over, the Mavericks pinned their hopes on Rinku Singh and he did not disappoint. Up against left-arm spinner Shiva Singh, he began by playing a dot delivery before hitting the next three balls for three sixes to seal the game in style.

Meanwhile, Rinku Singh recently made his much-awaited debut for Team India during the T20I series against Ireland earlier this month. While he did not get a chance to bat on his debut, he made the most of the opportunity when it arrived in the second game.
The left-handed batsman played a quickfire knock of 38 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match. He will be seen in action for Team India once again this month when he travels to China for the Asian Games. The southpaw is a part of the team that will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
