Test Cricket hasn’t had the biggest fan following after the introduction of the limited-overs format but still, certain players have been very entertaining in the longer formats too. They deserve a special place in the squad and they tend to take the game away from the opponents in a flash.

It is very hard to score a test century in less than 100 balls as the bowlers hit the testing lengths consistently and despite that, these players have made it possible. With a note on that, here are 8 players with the most Test centuries in less than 100 balls.

Ross Taylor -2 :

Ross Taylor has often been associated with playing the situation and stepping up for the team in crucial situations for the New Zealand cricket team. Taylor holds the record for the most number of test runs from his nation and he scored 19 overall test centuries out of which two came in less than 100 balls. Taylor’s quick centuries came against Australia in 2010 and against India in 2012.

Ian Botham is recognized as one of the greatest all-rounders to have played the game and he was very effective with both and the ball. Botham hit 14 test centuries overall and out of it, three came in less than 100 balls and he had scored more than 5000 runs in the middle order. Botham also picked up more than 350 test wickets in his career and is among the few all-rounders to have such an impact in the game.

Shahid Afridi is popularly called the “boom boom” for his attacking gameplay in any format and he likes to take on the bowlers to take on from the outset. Afridi has scored three test centuries in less than 100 balls out of the five he scored overall in his Test career and he did enjoy a little bit of success in the longer format in the few games he played for Pakistan.

David Warner is still one of the best test players in the world and he can be very aggressive in his approach for Australia. The left-handed opener has scored 24 test centuries so far and out of it, four of it has come under 100 balls. He has an overall strike rate of 72.7 in tests and he does start exploding once he gets set in the longer format. Warner is a match-winner with the bat and he is an extraordinary player.

Chris Gayle is one of the most destructive openers of all time in all the formats and the 41-year-old has scored 15 test centuries with the highest score of 333 and at an overall strike rate of 60.3. He scored four centuries in less than 100 balls which equals the third most number of centuries in less than 100 balls in test cricket by any player and he last played in the longest format in 2014.

The former New Zealand wicket-keeper batsmen Brendon McCullum was very explosive in all formats of the game and he hit 12 centuries overall in his test career out of which, four centuries came under less than 100 balls. McCullum is one of the greatest to have played the game from his nation and his attacking game was always something to watch out for.

Adam Gilchrist is one of the best wicket-keeper batsmen to have played the game and he started the era for wicket-keepers to offer a lot more with the bat than the usual wicket-keepers. Gilchrist finished with 17 test centuries at an overall strike rate of 82 and out of those, six centuries came under 100 balls which are the second-most by any player.

Virender Sehwag – 7:

Virender Sehwag holds the record for the most number of Test centuries in less than 100 balls and he has hit seven of those in his test career. The aggressive opener has been one of India’s best test batsmen over the years and he did score two triple centuries in his Test career which is an astonishing feat. Sehwag has scored 23 centuries overall in tests and his strike rate was more than 82 in tests which is extraordinary.
