ACC To Take Away Asia Cup 2023 Hosting Rights From PCB? Shocking Details Emerge Just A Day Ahead Of ACC Meeting

There has been a lot of buzz on the Asia Cup 2023 where BCCI has made it clear that they won’t travel to Pakistan for the tourney. PCB chief Najam Sethi had a verbal spat with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President & BCCI secretary Jay Shah for announcing the groups of the tournament.

There’s an emergency meeting called by PCB Chairman Najam Sethi on 5th February (Saturday) with ACC members to discuss whether Pakistan will host the tournament or not. This Asia Cup championship is going to be played in a 50-over format after 2018 when India had won against Bangladesh.

A source close to ANI made some interesting & shocking revelations ahead of the board meeting. “PCB’s newly elected chief wants an urgent meeting with the ACC chief and members and he expressed this wish in front of ACC members during IL T20 opening ceremony in Dubai. Now the meeting will be in Bahrain and the main agenda of the meeting is to decide the fate of the Asia Cup 2023, whether it will be held in Pakistan or not. Most likely it will be held in another country rather than Pakistan.” said the source.

Concerns for Pakistan

Pakistani fans would be hoping that they can witness a high voltage clash of India vs Pakistan in Pakistan. It won’t be wrong to say that if this tournament is being shifted to another neutral venue, then it will affect the 2025 Champions Trophy rights for Pakistan. Pakistan hasn’t hosted an ICC event in the history of Cricket

Recently Australia, England & New Zealand toured Pakistan where the visiting teams had expressed that they are feeling quite safe in Pakistan. It would be interesting to see how the emergency board meeting unfolds as hosting an Asia Cup tournament is as big as an ICC event for the PCB where in 2022 Asia Cup, they almost won the final.
