Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist has joined the bandwagon of cricketers who are remembering Shane Warne after he passed away on March 4, due to a suspected heart attack. He died at his villa in Thailand where he had gone for a vacation. His family reported Warne complaining of chest pain before leaving Australia for the vacation.
Meanwhile, Gilchrist who played almost all his international career alongside Warne recalled a few instances of Shane Warne and his generosity. He was very close to his Australian teammates who rate him as the best leg-spinner in the world. Adam Gilchrist in his column for the Daily Telegraph wrote about an instance when he paid the bill for the England cricketers and in the process displayed his generosity.

“A number of the English players flew via helicopter to an exclusive golf club outside Melbourne after Warnie arranged the flights and rounds of golf for them. I know they gave Warnie a gift for doing so but when the bill came in, it was five figures” wrote Gilly in his column.
“When the bill arrived Warnie’s reaction was “oh, okay then.’’ At no point did he say “are they going to pay me?’’ He just quietly fixed up the bill and moved on. There was no complaining or whinging from Warnie. That was typical of the man and his generosity of spirit” Gilchrist further added.
The southpaw further recalled an incident when Shane Warne used his own points to upgrade Gilchrist to first-class when they were flying home from Old Trafford in 1997.
Generosity Was One Of Shane Warne’s Strong Suit: Adam Gilchrist

“His generosity, underestimated by those who didn’t know him, was a strong suit of Warnie’s. I remember flying home with a knee injury after the third Test at Old Trafford in 1997 and Warnie was on the same flight because his daughter Brooke was born. We flew home together and he used his points to upgrade me to first class. Sitting next to a legend who had just become a father was an experience I will always cherish” wrote Gilly.
The leg-spinner who is the second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket ended with 703 Test wickets and 293 ODI wickets.
