Star Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins expressed his delight after securing back-to-back hat-tricks in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Pat Cummins emphasized how memorable it was to achieve this rare feat, having played over a hundred games for the Australian national cricket team.

Pat Cummins made cricket history by becoming the first player ever to achieve back-to-back hat-tricks in a T20 World Cup. The right-arm fast bowler achieved this feat during Australia's Super 8 match in the T20 World Cup 2024 at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, on Saturday, June 22 (local time).

Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51) provided a good start after being asked to bat first. The duo added a 118-run partnership for the first wicket in 15.5 overs. However, the Mitchell Marsh-led team bounced back by taking quick wickets to restrict Afghanistan to 148/6.

Cummins dismissed Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, and Gulbadin Naib to secure his second consecutive hat-trick in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Australia ODI and Test captain secured three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs. Right-arm leg spinner Adam Zampa bagged two wickets for 28 runs in his full quota of overs.

I Remembered This One Hattrick - Pat Cummins

During the innings break, Pat Cummins expressed immense satisfaction with his back-to-back hat-tricks in the T20 World Cup. Cummins was unaware of his hat-trick ball against Afghanistan but remembered it this time against Bangladesh.

"Yeah I remembered this one (hattrick). Crazy. Played 100-odd games for Australia, (now) got two in a row. I thought they batted well. But I also thought we restricted the boundaries. They obviously ran well. Overall, decent bowling effort. Not our tidiest day in the field. Happy with the total."

"Don't know, it's uncharacteristic (sloppy fielding). Maybe it was the lights. Didn't change too much (the pitch). There was spin throughout, and a little bit up and down. Not the flattest wicket in the world, but also not a terrible wicket - there's runs to be scored out there," Cummins said during the innings.

Cummins had previously secured his maiden T20 World Cup hat-trick against Bangladesh in Antigua. He was the first player to secure consecutive hat-tricks in T20Is. Brett Lee was the first Australian bowler to claim a T20 World Cup hat-trick. Lee achieved this against Bangladesh in the inaugural edition.

In response, Australia managed only 127 runs in 19.2 overs. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell scored 59 runs off 41 balls, featuring three sixes and six boundaries, but couldn't guide the team to cross the finish line. Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis were the only other batsmen to reach double figures in the match.

Australia will face the Rohit Sharma-led India team in their final Super 8 match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia on Monday, June 24. A loss in the upcoming match will almost eliminate Australia from the tournament.
