West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane was spotted ordering his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal to leave the field during the Duleep Trophy final between West Zone and South Zone for disciplinary grounds.
As a result of his sledging of opposing batter Ravi Teja, who reportedly complained about the repeated sledging, Jaiswal found himself in a scandal.
Additionally, the incident’s footage was extensively shared on social media.
There Are Certain Things You Must Follow On The Field: Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane clarified his choice to eject Jaiswal from the game following the game and stated his “mantra” of observing the game’s regulations.
“You have to follow rules and respect the game, your opponents and the umpires. That’s the way I have always played my cricket and I will continue to do so. There are certain things you must follow on the field, if you don’t, you get off the field. This is my mantra,” Ajinkya Rahane said.
“I believe in always respecting your opponents, umpires and match officials. So you have to handle certain incidents in a certain manner,” he added.
I Need To Keep Going Ahead: Yashasvi Jaiswal
Jaiswal also discussed the event openly and stated that he is going on and concentrating on the process after seeking guidance from elders Rahane and Shreyas Iyer.
“I’m happy but I think I need to keep going ahead. I just think about the way I’m applying myself and going through the processes. I keep talking to the seniors – Ajinkya and Shreyas (Iyer), and take their advice seriously to try and improve,” Jaiswal said.
The altercation between Jaiswal and Teja came to light during the 50th over of the decisive innings. Both players exchanged a few words before Ajinkya Rahane intervened to calm things down.
However, after the on-field umpire objected to Jaiswal’s incessant babbling, he was once more caught sledging in the 57th over. After speaking with his player and treating the situation more seriously, Rahane further ordered his player to leave the field. Jaiswal came back after missing seven overs.
Jaiswal made headlines for the wrong reasons when he was disqualified from the field, but it is important to remember that he first gained attention for his explosive hitting.
He scored 285 runs as West Zone defeated South Zone by 294 runs in Coimbatore to win the Duleep Trophy for a record-breaking 19th time.
Along with him, captain Rahane also had a respectable campaign, scoring 250 runs at an average of 62 over the course of three games and five innings.
After the win, Rahane tweeted, “What a pleasure it has been to lead the West Zone to a brilliant series win.”
