The 34-year-old India National Cricket Team batter Ajinkya Rahane, who captains Mumbai, scored a remarkable double century against Hyderabad in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2022-23 on Wednesday, December 21. It was his second double-hundred in the ongoing domestic season.

Former India Test vice-captain Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane last played international cricket on the India tour of South Africa 2021-2022. He played all three games of the three-match Test series against South Africa National Cricket Team.

Rahane struggled for runs throughout the series and was able to score just 136 runs in 6 innings at a poor average of 22.66.

After his poor performance with the bat for an extended period of time, the veteran batter was dropped from the Test team ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. Along with Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara, Wriddhiman Saha, and Ishant Sharma were also dropped. Pujara has successfully made a comeback to the team, but Rahane is nowhere close to a comeback.

Ajinkya Rahane looked brilliant with the bat against Hyderabad and scored a terrific century off just 121 balls at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai to register his 38th first-class century.

On Day 2, Rahane completed his double hundred inside the first session off 253 balls and he smashed 26 fours and 3 sixes. Overall, he scored 204 runs off 261 balls, before being castled by Tanay Thyagarajan.

Ajinkya Rahane also had two sensational partnerships in the innings, first with Yashasvi Jaiswal and then with the in-form Sarfaraz Khan. The veteran batter stitched together 206 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal and 196 runs with Sarfaraz Khan to help Mumbai declare on 651/6.

The double ton against Hyderabad was Ajinkya Rahane’s second in the ongoing domestic season as in September, he scored a double ton (207 runs off 264 balls) for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy game against North Zone.
