Australia star David Warner has disagreed with his teammate Glenn Maxwell over the use of light show at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Both the players starred with the bat in Australia’s huge 309-run win over the Netherlands in the 24th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

Batting first, Australia piled up a mammoth total of 399 for 8 in the allotted 50 overs with David Warner and Glenn Maxwell scoring centuries. While the opening batter slammed 104 runs off 93 balls, the allrounder smashed a breathtaking 106 runs off just 44 balls.

Glenn Maxwell also hit the fastest century in the World Cup, reaching the milestone in just 40 deliveries. His whirlwind knock was studded 9 fours and 8 sixes. In reply, the Netherlands were all out for a paltry total of 90 runs. Barring opener Vikramjit Singh (25), no other player could reach the 20-run mark during the disastrous batting display. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 8 off 3 overs.

David Warner disagrees with Glenn Maxwell:

After the game ended, Glenn Maxwell did not shy away from expressing his displeasure over the use of light show in the stadium during the game. The Australia star was seen covering his eyes when the show was on. The light shows have become an integral part of the games at several venues during the ongoing World Cup. And while the fans love it, Glenn Maxwell was not amused by it.

“I just think it’s the dumbest idea for cricketers when you’ve got this thing coming at you quickly and your eyes take so long to adjust and I think we just lost a wicket and the Perth Stadium lights went nuts and I was at the other end and it took me ages to get my eyes to go again and I felt like I had a headache,” he said after the game.

“So I just try and cover up as much as I possibly can and ignore it but it’s a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, but horrible for the players,” he added.

His teammate David Warner, however, holds a different view. After Maxwell’s comments were posted on X by a user, the Australia opener decided to share his views on the matter. He stated that he absolutely loved the light show and said that the game is all about the fans, writing:

“I absolutely loved the light show, what an atmosphere. It’s all about the fans. Without you all we won’t be able to do what we love. ???”
