Jhulan Goswami, one of the best bowlers in women’s cricket, announced her retirement from international cricket on Friday. Team India gave a fitting farewell to the legendary pacer with a first-ever clean sweep on English soil.

The 39-year-old made her debut in 2002 and represented India in 12 Tests, 204 ODIs and 68 T20Is, taking 355 wickets across all formats. Her international career spanned over two decades and is the second longest in women’s international cricket.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has described Jhulan Goswami’s two-decade-long international career as “monumental”. The BCCI said an era has come to an end with the retirement of one of women’s cricket’s greatest players.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said in a press release “With Jhulan announcing her retirement from international cricket, an era has come to an end. She took immense pride in representing India and always put her best foot forward as she served Indian cricket with distinction.”

“She was the leader of India’s bowling attack and her feats will continue to inspire the present and budding cricketers. Her contribution to the game has been monumental.”

“While her inspiring presence on the field will be missed, her achievements will continue to motivate the upcoming cricketers.”

Jhulan Goswami played five ODI World Cups – 2005, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2022, and remains the highest wicket-taker in Women’s World Cup history. She also remains the only fast bowler to take more than 250 wickets in ODIs in women’s cricket.

In her farewell game, Jhulan completed her quota of 10 overs with impressive figures of 2/30, which included three maiden overs.
