Gautam Gambhir loses his cool during practice: India’s qualification for the semi-final has been in doubt after their 76-run loss against South Africa, last Sunday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The Men in Blue had an intense training session at Chennai last evening ahead of their must-win game against Zimbabwe on Thursday. Suryakumar Yadav’s side will look to come back to winning ways and qualify for the last four.
During the training session, Ray Sportz journalist Ankan Kar reported that the India National Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir was furious, as he was seen scolding the players heavily after the loss. There have been tensions inside the dressing room as previously.
Gautam Gambhir is losing his cool
Gautam Gambhir was also seen having a serious discussion with opener Abhishek Sharma inside the bus shortly after the team arrived in Chennai on Monday. Gautam Gambhir was seen animated while speaking with the flamboyant opener. However, the matter of the discussion still remains unknown.
The two were caught sitting just behind the driver, conversing intensely as the other players boarded. It is believed that the coach is unhappy with Abhishek’s performance. Abhishek Sharma has not been performing in the tournament, with three ducks and one 15-run innings. Thus, the pressure has been both on the coach and the batter as well.

After just one defeat he’s reacting like a frustrated fan. This is the time to back your players, not break their confidence.
Moments like this make you miss Dravid even more.

The Indian batters failed against a quality bowling attack of South Africa while chasing 188; the batting collapsed, and they were bundled out for just 111 runs. Former cricketers and fans shared their concern over the team's lack of intent, putting the top order under scrutiny. There can be changes to the batting lineup to ensure a more consistent start.
Too many left-handers are a problem for India
India has been overloaded with left-handers, with six left-handers in the side. As Rinku Singh has returned home due to a family emergency, as per reports, his father has been struggling with cancer. There are very grim chances that Rinku will be back in time ahead of Thursday’s game. Sanju Samson can be seen opening the innings with Abhishek.
India need to win both their remaining games against Zimbabwe and the West Indies by big margins. The Men in Blue also need to hope South Africa win all their remaining group stage games against the same opposition, as it will make it easier for the co-hosts as they can qualify with two wins, without any net run rate issues.
Sanju Samson and Axar Patel can play on Thursday
Sanju has been out of form, and that has been the reason for his being dropped. However, he scored some runs in the Namibia games, scoring 22 off 8 balls, and a right-hander up the order can also lead to a tactical change for the opponents, as all of them are using the tactics of bringing in an off-spinner in the very first over for a matchup.
Axar Patel, who was benched against the Proteas, can make a comeback in place of Washington Sundar. Gautam Gambhir has been blunt and has always backed his players during tough times; the frustration might break the confidence of the players.
