Former Sri Lanka legendary all-rounder Aravinda de Silva has asked the national team to pull up their socks instead of complaining about the new grading system. Bangladesh have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing three-match ODI series, with one to play on Friday. Aravinda de Silva believes that Sri Lanka must stop complaining and start putting on match-winning performances.
Sri Lanka’s new ODI skipper Kusal Perera spoke about their willingness to play positive cricket in Bangladesh; however, it has not gone as planned. Mushfiqur Rahim’s half-century and century in the first and second ODI respectively catapulted Bangladesh to competitive totals. But the tourists could not chase it down, losing 33 runs while chasing 258 and 103 runs when in pursuit of 245 in 40 overs.
Aravinda de Silva believes that the first thing Sri Lanka must do is to step in the field and play positive cricket to win games instead of complaining. The former spin-bowling all-rounder, who is part of the Cricket Committee Chairman, underlined that such gameplay would encourage the board to offer more benefits like some of the other countries in the region.
“The most important fact is that they should get into the middle and play positive cricket and start winning games for the country rather than complaining. This positive approach will encourage us to consider offering them more benefits, like some of the other countries in our region,” De Silva said as quoted by dailynews.lk.
The Committee has been very fair to them by infusing additional benefits than before: Aravinda de Silva
Aravinda de Silva spoke of the Committee’s fairness by introducing additional benefits than before, which is on a performance-based scheme. The 55-year old said that these matters were discussed with the players before presenting to them and that they have increased the benefits enormously, but stressed that the team must raise its performance to derive them.
“The Committee has been very fair to them by infusing additional benefits than before, which is on a performance-based scheme. We discussed this matter in depth before we presented it to the players. Unlike in the past, we have increased the benefits three-fold (300%) than what it was but purely on the team’s performance,” he added.
