Pakistan white-ball skipper Babar Azam has come under a serious scanner over the last few months. In the latest development as per the reports by Pakistan journalist Faizan Lakhani, the right-hander showed arrogance during the team's Test series against Australia last year.
It is learned that Pakistan's batting coach Adam Hollioake during the Test series against Australia saw some flaws in Babar Azam's batting. He told the batter that he wanted to work with him to correct some of his mistakes. But Babar wasn't willing to do that and said he was doing everything right.
Babar Azam during that three-match Test series against Australia National Cricket Team struggled to get going. The right-hander couldn't make a big impact on his team with bat and failed in all three games, which was one of the main reasons behind the team facing whitewash.
Babar Azam's overall performance in the Tests in 2023 was underwhelming. In the 10 innings that he played for the Pakistan National Cricket Team, he scored 204 runs. Also, his average of 24.15 in Australia speaks a lot about his poor batting display down under.
In the Test series against Australia in 2023-24, Babar Azam scored 103 runs at an average of 20.60 with a top score of 41 to his name. He hasn't registered a single fifty in the longest format of the game since 2022, which speaks about his poor run in the whites for Pakistan.
Not only in Test cricket, Babar Azam is struggling to get going in the other formats as well. After the Test series against Australia and the T20I series against New Zealand, he was reappointed as the captain of the team but the move didn't work and he now has come under serious scanner.
Babar Azam failed to win the bilateral series against the New Zealand C team, lost aT20I game against Ireland, and then the series against England. He also didn't have a great T20 World Cup 2024 as under his leadership, the team lost to the United States of America and India and faced an early exit.
Babar Azam to face demotion in central contracts after poor T20 World Cup campaign
Babar Azam has been facing a lot of criticism after Pakistan's debacle in T20 World Cup 2024. He has come under a huge scanner and there have been even calls to remove him as the captain of the team after how he performed in the tournament.
Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly is all set to take action against some of the key players. Babar Azam along with Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Rizwan might be demoted from Pakistan's central contract for the 2024-2025 season after their underwhelming performance in the tournament.
The Pakistan Cricket Board also has decided against giving NOCs to Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and Naseem Shah to play in the foreign leagues. It remains to be seen what next unfolds in Pakistan Cricket after a lot of controversies.
