Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey opened up about England batter Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal, which took place in the second Test of the Ashes 2023 series. Alex Carey pointed out that Jonny Bairstow was standing out of the crease and playing the shot.

Alex Carey made headlines after his stumping of Jonny Bairstow during the second Test at Lord’s. Bairstow left the crease after ducking the ball, assuming the over had ended. Carey quickly reacted and dislodged the bails. The third umpire made the decision in favour of the visitors.

Speaking for the first time, Alex Carey admitted that Jonny Bairstow was trying to avoid the bouncer and was out of his crease.

“We were switched on to the fact that it was a bouncer plan and it felt like Johnny was … getting out of the way, he wasn’t playing any shots,” Carey said.

“When he ducked, obviously his first movement was pretty much out of his crease so instinctively I grabbed the ball, threw the stumps down and the rest is history. He’s a fantastic player and obviously a big wicket in that match,” he added.

We’ve All Supported Each Other – Alex Carey

Alex Carey reflected on the Lord’s Long Room incident after Bairstow’s dismissal. Carey stated that the team stands together despite facing negative comments and behaviour.

“We walked off at lunch and we got some pretty instant feedback. We were all out there and we all walked through the Long Room together, and post-match we all discussed it together,” he further stated.

“From our point of view, we’ve all got each other’s backs and we’ve all supported each other. We understand what’s important and who matters. There’s some nasty stuff being said but it is the Ashes, and there was nasty stuff said before that as well,” he added.

Found It A Little Bit Amusing – Alex Carey

The Australian wicketkeeper clarified that he hadn’t gotten a haircut since the World Test Championship Final against India last month.

“I found it a little bit amusing to start off with … wasn’t sure if it was fake news or not. But the hair hasn’t been cut since we were down in London (during last month’s World Test Championship Final). It’s definitely due for a trim,” he concluded.

On July 8, The Sun newspaper reported that Alex Carey went for a haircut with teammates David Warner and Usman Khawaja at Doc Barnet’s Barber Shop in Leeds. The barber, Adam Mahmood, claimed that Carey did not pay the amount for his haircut.
