Australia would be over the moon after winning the opening Test match narrowly against England. David Boon feels that England’s game plan is quite exciting. David Boon pointed out that England’s batters have got the courage by playing a fearless brand of cricket.

All eyes would be on Jonny Bairstow, the wicket-keeper batter wasn’t at his best behind the wickets. It looks unlikely that Ben Foakes would replace Bairstow as the star batter can dismantle the opposition team with his wide range of shots.

Australia would be hoping that David Warner converts his starts as the batter in the 2nd innings was slowly getting into the groove. Once again the onus will be on the elegant left-handed batter Usman Khawaja to provide the team a good start.

Brendon McCullum has given the courage and faith in English batters to go and play that way – David Boon

David Boon was seen interacting on the podcast ‘SEN Tassie’ and said that Brendon McCullum has instilled the belief in the England team of playing positive cricket. David Boon pointed out that England declaring at nearly 400 even and having a bowl at opposition is an amazing evolution of the game.

“It’s a vastly different game but I think it’s very exciting to watch. It’s different, it’s Brendon McCullum to the T. A few years back when Brendon was playing, he decided that being accountable but going out there and playing really positive cricket is the way to go in our game,” said David Boon.

“He has given the courage and the faith in the English batters to go and play that way. For a side to declare at nearly 400 on the first day of an Ashes Test to have a bowl at the opposition that night is an amazing evolution of the game,” he added.

The aggressive Brendon McCullum style of cricket, I don’t think will change – David Boon

David Boon was quite sure that England won’t change their approach in the 2nd Test and said that the brand of cricket which England side has applied is quite wonderful for cricket overall.

“If the ball does a bit, they might have to change their game plan just a little bit but I don’t think the aggressive part of it is going to leave. Back in my day, you would have probably batted for a little longer, especially maybe in the second innings, that let’s bat the side out of the game so that we can go harder with the ball,” said David Boon.

“I think in the second Test you will see changes from both sides but the aggressive McCullum style of cricket, I don’t think will change. I have watched a lot, it’s amazing to watch and I think it’s wonderful for cricket overall,” he added.
