Todd Murphy, an Australian bowler, has revealed the guidance he received from Nathan Lyon ahead of his prospective Ashes debut during the forthcoming Headingley Test. Murphy is expected to replace Lyon in the starting lineup for the match, which begins on Thursday.

Murphy is anticipated to be chosen to Australia’s starting XI for the third Test, which begins on Thursday at Headingley. Lyon, who has made 100 consecutive appearances, will return to Australia to begin his recuperation.

The Lord’s Test injury to Lyon’s calf would ultimately prevent him from playing in the remaining matches of the Ashes 2023 series. As a result of the unavailability of the seasoned off-spinner, Murphy, who made his debut earlier this year during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, might make his Ashes debut.

14 wickets were ultimately taken throughout the series against India by the youthful spinner. Prior to his first Ashes match, Murphy claimed that he spoke with Lyon. Lyon advised Murphy to never be afraid to use his skills and to trust them.

“It’s going to be a different outlook for me, I had a really good chat with Nath, think it was day four or five of the last Test, and he just said trust what you’ve got, believe in it, and don’t go away from it. Don’t expect yourself to do too much. My body’s feeling really good at the moment. I’m confident that the work I’ve put in post-India to get that right, hopefully, can hold up,” Todd Murphy said.

“Think they’ll probably come even harder at me” – Todd Murphy

Australian bowler Todd Murphy also expressed his opinion, saying that he is perfectly prepared for a match against England’s “Bazball” strategy and is aware that the English hitters will be more aggressive toward him given his inexperience.

“Think they’ll probably come even harder at me, Obviously I haven’t played a hell of a lot of Test cricket, but there’s a challenge that presents itself. They keep taking the game on and I think it’s about trying to navigate through that, come up with a few different ideas that can help, and try to keep creating chances,” Todd Murphy was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“Looking back on India, getting the opportunity to play Test cricket and being exposed to high-level contests only helps, and think I took a lot of confidence from that experience. Trusting that if do get the opportunity, believe in myself that I can be good enough at this level,” Todd Murphy added.
