KL Rahul‘s participation in the Asia Cup 2023 is still to be decided by the BCCI. The keeper-batsman is still recovering from the hamstring injury on his right thigh that he survived in IPL 2023. As a result, Rahu was ruled out midway through the tournament having played nine games.
Rahul went through surgery and now is recovering and is stable. Pictures and videos of his batting session have broken the internet with the Indian cricket fans expecting him to be fit in time for the Asia Cup. However, the BCCI continues to linger on with the fitness of Rahul and Shreyas Iyer.
Both the players are central to the Indian middle-order in the upcoming World Cup and the board is making every possible arrangement to get them fit on time. Reports on July 19 2023 said that KL Rahulo was back in action as he trained in the nets. However, his participation in the Asia Cup 2023 is still subject to fitness.
Meanwhile, former Indian coach Ravi Shastri gave his honest opinion on whether KL Rahul will be fully fit to play in the Asia Cup 2023. Speaking to Star Sports Shastri said that it would ask too much from Rahul to get fit, bat, and also keep in the Asia Cup.
You Are Asking A Little Too Much From KL Rahul: Ravi Shastri
“See when when you’re talking of a player (KL Rahul) who’s not played and is recovering from injury. To think of him in the XI of the Asia Cup, you’re asking a little too much of the player himself. And then you’re talking keeping. When a guy comes from an injury, the range of movement and things of that sort, so that’s a no-no,” Shastri said.
Shastri opted to go with Ishan Kishan as the possible keeper in the XI. India are placed alongside Pakistan and Nepal in Group A in Asia Cup 2023. They start their campaign against Pakistan in Pallekele on September 2.
