There has been an off-field tussle between BCCI & PCB over Asia Cup 2023. BCCI Secretary & Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah made it clear in 2022 that they won’t travel to Pakistan for the championship and had said that the tournament should be played at a neutral venue.

There has been an emergency board meeting of ACC members in Bahrain. PCB hasn’t hosted Asia Cup since 2008 when Sri Lanka defeated India in the final. Pakistan recently has successfully conducted tours of Australia, England & New Zealand where visiting teams were quite happy with the security.

BCCI Source on Asia Cup

BCCI Source was having an interaction with PTI and was asked about the ACC meeting. “The ACC affiliates met today and there were a lot of constructive discussions. But the shift of venue has been postponed till March. But be rest assured that with India not going to Pakistan, the tournament will have to be shifted. A tournament without Virat Kohlis, Rohit Sharmas and Shubman Gills will have the sponsors back out.” said the source.

Pakistan in Deep Trouble

If Asia Cup 2023 is snatched away from them, then questions would raise over Champions Trophy 2025 where they have the hosting rights. PCB has gone through a massive revamp where Najam Sethi has taken over from Ramiz Raja as the PCB Chairman.

There are reports which suggest that Pakistan won’t have the hosting rights as UAE would be the one in charge which is a massive blow. Pakistan currently is going through economic crisis. Pakistani fans have seen their team play in UAE for more than a decade. Qatar has also emerged as an another venue but it looks unlikely that ACC would experiment in a World Cup year where each ODI carries it’s worth.
