Asia Cup 2025 schedule confirmed, tournament moved out of India

India National Cricket Team and Pakistan National Cricket Team could be playing three times more this year as the tentative scheduled date for the Asia Cup 2025 has been announced. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the tournament will be played in September.

The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in T20 format and it will see as many as 19 games being played in this edition. The reports claimed that the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has scheduled the tournament between the second and fourth week of September later this year.

Asia Cup 2025 to be played at a neutral venue

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be the host of the Asia Cup 2025, but the tournament won't be played in India. As per the reports, it is learned that the ACC has decided to host the event at a neutral venue because of the agreement that India and Pakistan shared ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is played in the Hybrid model.

As per the ACC's document, the tournament will be held in a neutral country when it is the turn of either the BCCI or the PCB to stage it. The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to take place either in Sri Lanka or the United Arab Emirates, which is currently hosting India games in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ACC's decision to host Asia Cup 2025 at a neutral venue is because they didn't want any controversy about the India and Pakistan teams not wanting to travel to each other's countries. This has been happening since the last few events, especially during the Asia Cup 2023 and the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

India and Pakistan will be placed in the same group

A total of 8 teams will be taking part in the Asia Cup 2025. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong, along with India and Pakistan. Nepal, who played in the last edition of the Asia Cup, won't be playing a tournament this time as they failed to qualify for this edition.

The format for the Asia Cup will be the same, with eight teams getting divided into two groups. India and Pakistan will be placed in the same group. The top two teams from each group will move ahead into the Super Four stage. In that part, the top two teams in the table will play the the final.

There will be Four Asia Cups till 2031

The Asia Cup provides a great opportunity for fans to see India vs Pakistan happening three times. The two teams will be clashing in at the group stage, then in the Super Four round, and likely in the final too. In the last Asia Cup, the two teams were up against each other twice.

Till 2031, there will be Four Asia cups. After the 2025 edition, the 2027 edition will be held in Bangladesh (13 games) in the ODI format, followed by one in the T20 format (19 games) with the PCB as the host but played in a neutral country. Finally, the 2031 edition, in the ODI format (13 games), will be held in Sri Lanka.
