Asian Games: My Mind Gets Blocked- Rinku Singh On Why He Doesn't Accept Captaincy

Rinku Singh has said that he doesn’t accept captaincy because it blocks his mind. He also added that he tried captaincy in some games but was not able to play freely.
Rinku Singh became a popular figure in IPL 2023. The KKR batter shattered 5 sixes off the final 5 balls in a match against Gujarat Titans (GT) to drive his team to an unbelievable victory. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) needed 5 sixes off the last five balls to win the match and Rinku did an impeccable job.
Later, Singh also played for India in the T20I series against Ireland last month. He also plays for Uttar Pradesh domestic team and was part of the Meerut Mavericks in the recent UPT20 franchise league. However, Rinku Singh does not lead any of the two teams and stays away from captaincy.
Captaincy Blocks My Mind: Rinku Singh
During an interview with News18 CricketNext, Rinku Singh was asked why he doesn’t accept captaincy. To this, the left-handed batsman replied that captaincy blocks his mind.
“I have never done captaincy. I like it but don’t do it. Kuch matches mai kari hai to mera dimag block ho jaata hai (Tried captaincy in some games but my mind gets blocked).
Rinku Singh also said that he wants to play freely and doesn’t want to take the load of captaincy.
“My nature is such that I want to play freely and don’t want to take a load of captaincy. UPCA also offered me captaincy but I refused with folded hands because I want to play with a free mind”, the left-handed batsman further said.

Singh grabbed the limelight with his performance in IPL 2023 for KKR. With 474 runs in 14 games at an average of 59.25, he finished as the top run-getter for his team.
He shattered 4 half-centuries for KKR and held a high strike rate of 149+ while batting. Notably, the UP player remained unbeaten in 6 games out of 14.
Rinku Singh To Play For India In Asian Games 2023
Meanwhile, Rinku’s team Meerut Mavericks finished as runners-up in the UPT20 league. He also rocked the field in a match after smashing 3 sixes in the super-over.
The 23-year-old will now participate in the Asian Games 2023. The tournament begins on September 23 in China. BCCI has developed a second-string squad for the Asian Games 2023 as it will clash with ICC World Cup 2023. Asian Games 2023 does not come under the ICC (International Cricket Council).
