Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg stated that a reserve day should be added to a Test match if there is a chance of heavy rain at the venue. Brad Hogg’s statement came after the fourth Test match between England and Australia ended in a draw due to adverse weather conditions.

The last two days of the fourth Test of the Ashes 2023 series were marred by rain at Old Trafford in Manchester. Australia retained the Ashes series as not a single ball was bowled in the final match. The visitors won the first two Tests of the five-match series before losing the third game.

Can Have A Reserve Day – Brad Hogg

Speaking to talkSPORT, Brad Hogg emphasized the need for a reserve day in Test matches to ensure a result.

“You can have a reserve day. I think they should have said ‘There’s a chance of rain here at Old Trafford. A huge chance [of rain], so we may put a rest day here and push the next Test match just another day later,” Brad Hogg said.

Australia showed fightback in their second after conceding a 275-run lead. Marnus Labuschagne scored his 11th Test century before being dismissed by Joe Root. Australia ended the fourth day’s play at 214/5, but no play was possible due to persistent showers on Day 5.

We Have Just Missed That Opportunity – Brad Hogg

The former Australian spinner stated that the outcome of the recently concluded match would have added excitement to the final Test.

“We want to make sure we’re going into the final Test match with an opportunity of both teams being 2-2 and we want that highlight going into the last Test match. And now we have just missed that opportunity,” he concluded.

The Ben Stokes-led team will be hoping to level the series when they take on the Pat Cummins-led team in the fifth and final match at the Oval in London starting on Thursday, July 27.
