Australia opener David Warner made a huge statement ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval. Australia are ahead in the series by 2-1 and have retained the Ashes series with the fourth Test in Manchester ended in a draw. The visitors have a chance to win the series 3-1.

Talking to the press a day before The Oval Test starts, David Warner spoke about England’s Bazball approach and said that he is yet to see that approach from the hosts in full throttle.

The southpaw further said that England have played the way they have been playing so far but is not close to what they termed as Bazball.

“I haven’t really seen Bazball yet to be honest. They are playing the way they have been playing and I haven’t really seen much of it from them” Warner said to Cricket Australia’s official website.

The southpaw further said on his retirement plans. After joking about it initially, Warner said that he is planning to retire from Test cricket after the three-match home series against Pakistan next summer, culminating in a home farewell for the New Year’s Test in Sydney.

He was also asked about his possible successor in the Test side. The veteran opener named Matt Renshaw ad his possible successor saying The 27-year-old Queenslander, who was released from the Ashes squad earlier this month made his debut as a 21-year-old back in 2016 but has struggled to establish his place in the side.

Warner compared Renshaw to former Australian opener Matthew Hayden saying that he is exactly like the former Australian opener.

“The hardest thing moving forward is we’ve always had players that have come and played both forms, (and) in all three forms now, so are (selectors) going to be inclined to pick someone like that? Matt Renshaw is a very good player. He can play both formats quite easily. He’s tall, he’s exactly like Haydos” Warner concluded saying.
